Welcome to Build with Gemma: Kolkata, organized by Machine Learning Kolkata with $2000 in Prize Pool!
With the release of Gemma 4, a new family of open models is officially in your hands. Leverage local frontier intelligence, native function calling, and multimodal understanding to tackle core developer challenges. Over this 24-hour sprint (July 4th 2:00 PM to July 5th 2:00 PM), we challenge you to build AI applications that solve real-world problems.
Hackathon Tracks
To give your project focus, you must align your submission with one of the following tracks:
- The Local Language & Inclusion Track: Build an application that breaks down language barriers, enhances accessibility, or creates content tailored to regional languages (such as Bengali, Hindi, etc.) and local Indian culture.
- The GenAI for Good Track: Leverage Gemma to address high-impact, real-world challenges specific to Kolkata or India at large. This could include innovative solutions for healthcare access, education/learning outcomes, agriculture, small business operations, or civic engagement.
- The Open Innovation / Multimodal Track: A wildcard track for deep technical execution. Show us the best use of Gemma 4's native function calling (autonomous agents), vision-to-text, or edge capabilities running offline.

While your technical execution is vital, the ability to communicate your vision through a compelling writeup and pitch is what will set the winners apart.
